The Rainbow Mountains area contain a number of caves, the most well-known being Hidden Cave. Click on the link to read much more about its history. For some history on La Plata, please click on the link.

15 July 2006 Ride Over Lucky Boy Pass

Click on the PDF icon to view a document that shows our route from the ride. If you have Google Earth, click HERE to view our route as a layer on the satellite image.

Our proposed ride is approximately 50-60 miles, with much of the ride over 6,000 feet. The highest elevation will be over 8,000 feet. The map I have shows the trails as mostly fire roads, so I don't expect too much difficulty, but you never know.

Our proposed route will take us through the Ghost Towns of Lucky Boy, Aurora, Del Monte and Fletcher. Not sure how much we'll see at each place, but it will be fun exploring! Also, we will pass by the Aurora Crater, which should be some neat geologic history.

6 May 2006 Ride to Red Mountain

We originally planned to do this ride first, but as they say, better late than never. We will meet at Renner Equipment in Fallon at 8:00 am. We will depart at approximately 8:15 am for the short drive to the unloading point. Please arrive with your ATVs full of gas and ready to go. Gary Mills, a longtime resident of the area, will be the Trail Boss for this great ride. Below, find various maps that Gary has prepared concerning the ride. See you there!

8 April 2006 Ride to La Plata (click on the name to view more info)

The ride is approximately 50 miles and will take 3-5 hours, depending on our pace.

Bring weather appropriate riding/safety gear for yourself and check the weather report, we are having a cold wet spring this year. As always, Helmets, riding gloves, long sleeves, and boots above your ankle are recommended for this ride, terrain is rocky and hilly.  There is nothing worse than being cold and wet or hurt on a ride to ruin the fun.

La Plata is approximately a 20 mile ride from where we start. Bring your lunch, drinks and snacks and we will have lunch in La Plata.

One tank of gas should be sufficient to cover this trip on your quad. However, if you want to bring extra gas, as many do, it wouldn't hurt.  BE SAFE. BE Happy and we will have a terrific ride.
